xtreme_photostory_8Many of us have digital photos stored away on our hard drives, alongside long forgotten snippets of video waiting for some predetermined purpose, but what is that purpose?  MAGIX hace recently release MAGIX Xtreme Photostory on CD & DVD 8, a software package designed to tidy up and provide a functional outlet for all of those memories in ther form of a slideshow packaged on a CD or DVD. The software is basically a cut down version of MAGIX Movie Edit aimed specifically at producing image slideshows (rather than videos).

Multimedia can be imported in a number of formats including most popular image formats (BMP, JPEG, GIF etc.), video formats (AVI, DV-AVI, MPEG-1 & 2, MOV etc.), RTF text, and most audio formats (WAV, MO3, OGG, WMA, etc.).  Again as with MAGIX Movie Edit there are three views for editing up the slideshow, "Storyboard", "Timeline" and "Overview" each of which providing a slightly different view of the overall slideshow for editing purposes.  MAGIX Xtreme Photostory on CD & DVD 8 provides a great number of functions in the editing mode for optimisation of the photos and the overall slideshow.  One-click image optimisation (exposure, color, red-eye removal etc.) is available to clean up photos and there are a multitude of transition effects (including 3D effects and animation), Titles and relevant effects (for credits etc.), decorative elements for a bit of fun (costumes, speeck bubbles etc.) and even dubbing functionality for commentary, background music etc.

Once the slideshow is edited to perfection, the final show can be presented ina  number of ways such as DVD (availabel with menus), (S)VCD, TV-JPEG in both standard (4:3), widescreen (16:9) in either NTSC or PAL.  Additionally slideshows can be exported to the web either using the free MAGIX Online Album or as a Quicktime, WMV, Real Media, or Shockwave Flash file for publication to a personal website.

The software is supported via a paper manual and also the MAGIX hosted community pages and help files.  We found the software very easy to use and found a great number of effects and large amounts of editable content which together provided a simple way to design professional and entertaining slideshows for publication.  The software would definitely appeal to both the personal user as well as the business user that wants to find a good medium for presentation, whether that be holiday pics or a business model.

If you are looking for a way of effectively presenting photos and pictures in an interesting way MAGIX Xtreme Photostory on CD & DVD 8 is certainly the way forward.  However if you are likely to want to edit video it would certainly be more prudent to purchase full blown video editing software that has all of the capabilities but also the functions to edit video.

MAGIX Xtreme Photostory on CD & DVD 8 certainly provides an excellent and simple way of enhancing and publishing still images and as such the price of £29.99 is very reasonable.
