The majority of laptop bags we have reviewed to date have been mainly aimed at day to day commutes (to work, college, school etc.), but we were pleased to discover that there were laptop bags specifically designed for travelling (but also suitable for day to day use). One company designing such bags for the more adventurous travellers and backpackers are Pacsafe and we were lucky enough to obtain one of the VentureSafe 25L adventure daypacks.
The VentureSafe daypack is a black rucksack with a more rugged feel to it than most laptop bags we have tested. Finished in black nylon the VentureSafe incorporates a great number of security features, including the eXomesh slashguard (a layer of stainless steel mesh that is interwoven into key areas of the pack), discrete clips to secure zip pullers and snatchproof anchor clips for the straps.
The eXomesh slashguard is built into the straps and the lower section of the bag to prevent thieves from cutting through them and either stealing the bag or contents, as the stainless steel mesh is knife proof. The clips for securing the zip pullers prevent theives from opening pockets or gaining entry into compartments of the bag unnotices and the snatchproof anchor clips allow the bag to be secured to fixed objects for example a chair leg or handle.
The safety features of the bag however do not compromise the comfort with the shoulder straps and back support being extremely well padded which together make the bag very comfortable to wear. There is even a sternum strap that helps spread the weight of the bag and contents evenly for those longer journeys.
Inside the main compartment of the bag there is an extremly well padded laptop compartment (suitable for laptops up to 13") with an elasticated top and velcro securing strap, and also a larger compartment that is capable of holding 1 or 2 A4 folders. On the front top of the bag is a second smaller zippered compartment, with a couple of smaller pockets with room to hold mobile phones or mp3 players, and also storage for the compulsory writing implements. Also on the front of the bag is a vertically zipped pocket with room to store further peripherals or compact waterproof clothing. Finally there are elasticated mesh pockets for drinks bottles on the side.
The design of the bag in our opinion makes it ideal for urban journeys with a smart black finish and very good security features to protect laptops and accessories. Additionally the bag is strong enough and provides enough protection for laptops for use as a backpack for more challenging journeys such as hiking, where a laptop and accessories are required. For whichever use, the rucksack provides an excellent amount of space and secure storage and we would wholeheartedly recommend it as one of the best laptop bags we have reviewed. Given the features of the bag it is good value for money and should last many trips whether urban or rural and it is backed with Pacsafe's two year guarantee.
