Video conversion, DVD ripping, Youtube ripping, Blu-Ray ripping..... the number of tools required for even average multimedia management seems never ending, and until now we have reviewed a selection of individual tools that allow for each indivudual aspect of the process. But we were recently asked to review the little known (at least to us!) Mediavatar Media Toolkit Ultimate that bundles every tool you could possibly need for each aspect of managing your multimedia library: from ripping from optical media (Blu-Ray, DVD) and digital online media (Youtube) to the full video conversion process from one format to another and we were impressed with the results.
Blu-ray Ripper - rip any blu ray disc and convert blu-ray M2TS movies to HD (High-Definition) video formats (H.264/MPEG-4 , MPEG-2/MPEG-4 TS HD and many more), or convert M2TS to MKV, AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, MP4, H.264/AVC, RM, MOV, XviD, 3GP, FLV and just about any SD (Standard-Definition) video formats with high-definition quality and extremely fast blu-ray ripping speed, enabling the possibility of playing blu-ray disc movies on any popular multimedia players like iPad, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Xbox, Wii, mobile phones and many others.
DVD Converter Pro - convert/rip DVD movies and watch them conveniently on any multimedia device, be it a mobile phone, gaming console, mini video player, iPad, iPod, iPhone, portable gaming devices and others.
Audio converter Pro - convert audio files among different audio formats (MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, APE), extract audio from video files in nearly all HD and SD formats, rip CDs to music files and burn music CD from different format audio files.
YouTube Video Converter - easy-to-use YouTube FLV Converter for downloading and converting YouTube FLV/HD videos from YouTube to other video formats.
The boxed software comes with both Windows (as reviewed) and MacOS versions, and installation is very straightforward. Each of the tools comes as a separate piece of software with a common template and process flow. Each of the video and audio rippers simply requires the selection of a correct profile to rip to (for instance iPad2) which the loads a series of presets for video size, video and audio quality and also the option to split the file into segments (each of these can be altered manually if desired but we couldn't really see the need for most users). Following selection of the ripping (or conversion) profile, the video files are chosen and the ripping process started. The ripping process when we tested it was nice and quick using any of the profiles (it apparently would have been even quicker if we had a compatible graphics card that the software could use) and the results were just as good as other ripping software we have used.
The real gem in the software pack, however, is the YouTube Video Converter. If you are a dedicated YouTube user, the ability to download your favourite clips at the click of a button is brilliant, and this little application does a fantastic job of it. The software provides a simplifed browser window with a single click button that allows clips to be downloaded and multiple clips can be downloaded at the same time whilst you continue to browse for more.
RRP £79.99 (although downloadbuyer.com are running a 50% off promotion through January and it is available at Amazon for ~£60)
4.5/5 - For the price, this suite of video and audio conversion tools is a brilliant way to tool yourself up when it comes to converting and maintaning your media libraries with presets for every type of device that we could think of. The YouTube video downloader and converter is the icing on the cake!
