Builds traction for DivX across mobile handset, tablet, in-car, netbook and portable media player solutions

DivX®, a division of Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), today announced an expanded collaboration with Freescale Semiconductor Inc., a global leader in embedded processing solutions, to adopt DivX HDTM technology across multiple platforms and support DivX TVTM on its chipsets. Freescale's latest mobile handset, tablet, in-car player, netbook, and portable media player solutions with DivX HD technology will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2011, along with DivX TV.

"The alliance with Freescale will enable our OEM customers to more quickly release DivX HD Certified consumer electronics devices such as tablets and smartphones," said Matt Milne, Executive Vice President and General Manager, DivX. "In addition, we're pleased to leverage Freescale's high performance, low power consumption, and multimedia capabilities to drive adoption of our Internet TV streaming service, DivX TV."

Freescale's i.MX53 processor will power the playback of DivX HD video up to 720p on cutting-edge mobile devices using the device's USB input. Typical HD video requires a considerable amount of storage space. In contrast, DivX HD video provides a superior media experience by maintaining the highest visual quality, while dramatically reducing file size.

Consumer electronics products with the Freescale processors supporting DivX will join the more than 400 million DivX devices that have already shipped worldwide into the market. All DivX Certified® devices contain proprietary digital rights management technology and the ability to play premium Hollywood movies in the DivX format from major studios.

"At Freescale, it's our mission to give customers the uncompromised online experience that they expect from next-generation connected consumer electronic products, and we see DivX as a key element of delivering on that promise," said Rajeev Kumar, i.MX Product Line Manager for Consumer products at Freescale Semiconductor Inc. "We look forward to implementing DivX HD Certification for the i.MX53 and supporting DivX TV on the recently announced i.MX 6 series as it expands its footprint on mobile devices."

In addition to DivX HD Certification, Freescale will also be showcasing the streaming capabilities of the i.MX processor using DivX TV. A one-stop shop for consumer electronics companies that want to provide on-demand access to popular Internet videos, original web programming, and premium services, DivX TV offers a rapidly growing library of more than 10,000 videos from over 200 shows. DivX TV is a dynamic service with an intuitive menu that provides the convenience of simply watching TV. Lightweight and scalable, DivX TV enables the best of Internet TV on any device or platform, combining the best of the web with the ease of flipping channels.

Freescale's i.MX53 processors deliver outstanding levels of performance, integration and software optimization for smart mobile devices, automotive infotainment, and industrial control applications. Supporting a broad array of operating systems, the products feature 1080p video decode, 720p video encode, exemplary graphics performance, and a 400MHz-capable external memory bus that enables larger LCD screens. i.MX53 processors also integrate a vast array of key peripherals, thereby boosting scalability and lowering bill of material costs.

DivX creates, distributes, and licenses digital video technologies that span the "three screens" comprising today's consumer media environment - the PC, television, and mobile devices. Over 400 million DivX devices have shipped into the market worldwide from leading consumer electronics manufacturers. DivX also offers content providers and publishers a complete solution for the distribution of secure, high-quality digital video content. Driven by a globally recognized brand and a passionate community of hundreds of millions of consumers, DivX is simplifying the video experience to enable the digital home.
